AMVETS Elect New Commander

Laura Doss of Jacksonville was elected the AMVETS Department of Illinois Commander for the 2024-2025 year. Commander Doss is an active member of Jacksonville Post 100 and has been part of the AMVETS organization since 2011. She is a Life Member of Post 100 and has served the Department of Illinois in several leadership roles, most recently as the Department First Vice Commander.

She served 13 years combined within the U.S. Army Reserve, Ohio Army National Guard, Regular Army, and Illinois Army National Guard. Doss’ military awards include an Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Good Conduct Medal, Primary Leadership Development Course ribbon, and German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency (Schützenschnur), Bronze Level.

In addition to her service, Commander Doss is active in her community. Notably, Doss has marched in the combined veterans Color Guard for the past 15 years. This coming year, Commander Doss will be traveling throughout the state encouraging veterans to join AMVETS and further the mission of ‘Veterans Helping Veterans.’
