The Manteno American Legion held a benefit on Saturday, January 22, for Bradley Police Officers Marlene Rittmanic and Tyler Bailey. In late December, while answering a call for unattended dogs barking at a local hotel, Officer Bailey was critically wounded, while his partner, Sgt. Rittmanic, suffered fatal injuries resulting from a shooting.
The officers’ families, friends, community members, plus many police and sheriff departments stopped by the event to offer their support. With a good crowd in attendance, approximately $9,000 was raised from the sale of burgers, raffle tickets, in addition to donations. One hundred percent of the money will be distributed to the officers’ families, through the Bradley Police Department.
