Village Board Votes to Demolish Second Street House, Again
![Vedette logo Vedette logo](https://www.thevedette.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/563A463C-4EFA-429A-8F3F-2AC1CF748190.png)

The house at 206 N. Second Street might get demolished this time. The home was condemned months ago and received a demolition order from a Will County Judge.
The first bid for demolition fell through after the contractor pulled his equipment and refused to complete the job citing “contract issues.”
The home has at least a six-foot deep basement, and the foundation would need to be removed and backfilled in order for anything to grow properly or another build to take place.
The last contract mentioned backfill up to eight inches and nothing of the foundation removal.
The new contract from KLF Enterprises of Markham states it will remove the two-story frame residential building and haul away all debris and disconnect the water and sewer for $27,000. An additional $3,000 will remove the asbestos.
Trustee Strba asked if the backfill was included, and Trustee Sandberg asked if KLF was removing the foundation walls. Village Administrator Aimee Ingalls said it was in the proposal that KLF accepted, although that information was not indicated on the KLF proposal.
Trustee Sluis asked if KLF was concerned that the debris from demolition would fall on the bowling alley. Bowling alley owner Rick Hansen had inquired, as such, during public comment and requested to be added to the insurance.
Hansen also spoke to the historical value of 206 N. Second. Hansen said the home was structurally sound and suggested the amount of money being spent on demolition could’ve been used in restorations.
The vote to demolish 206 N. Second was unanimous.
